A forest road curving through a managed stand in morning light.

working spine

Official records are not the same thing as ground truth.

The book follows a field worker close enough to land, infrastructure, and paperwork to see what falls between them. A warning can exist in one system and never arrive where it matters. A place can look green from the road and still carry a second account underneath.

The story is not about one bad machine or one bad company. It is about diffused liability: everybody gets a piece, nobody gets the whole animal.

Two field workers walking beneath utility lines along an overgrown forest road.

Project status

The Second Ledger is being developed as a grounded near-future literary systems novel. Life404 holds the public edge of the work: field records, atmosphere, fragments, image studies, and the ordinary details that feed the larger structure.

scale note

Small records still count.

The archive should keep room for the tiny interruptions: a beetle on a hand, a sign partly swallowed by branches, a corridor under a line, a road that looks too clean to question. Those are not decorations. They are the scale where the book breathes.
